The AMA Nationals reach their halfway stage this weekend at the sandy Southwick track.
90 riders attempted to qualify for 36 spaces in the 450 class, with 4 more going through from the LCQ. Florida winner Marvin Musquin carried on his recent good form by taking pole ahead of Jason Anderson with title rivals Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac close behind. Fredrik Noren makes a good debut on the JGR Suzuki by taking fifth, Aaron Plessinger came away with the 31st fastest time on his first ride back from injury. Sand specialists always upset the order slightly at Southwick, Jeremy Smith bagged himself 8th position with Chris Canning also impressing in 13th.
Justin Cooper may be in second in the title race, but he came away with pole position from qualifying. His teammates Colt Nichols and Dylan Ferrandis completed the top-3 with TLD KTM’s Shane McElrath coming away fourth. Championship leader Adam Cianciarulo grabbed sixth.
